Eight months after son's jackpot, Mom wins $500,000
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Eight months after her son hit a $500,000
jackpot on a slot machine, a South Carolina woman got even
luckier.
Darlene Allen, 60, of Smoaks, S.C., won $537,672 at Resorts
Atlantic City casino. Playing a 25-cent Jeopardy slot machine
recommended by her son, Richard, she hit the big one after
spending about $20 Tuesday.
"My son made me come and made me play this machine. I can't
believe it," said Allen. She works as a service technician
for Carolina Visual, an American flag manufacturer. The first
thing she'll do with the money:
Give a $5,000 tip to her son, who lives in Marlton. He did
the same for her when he won $512,831 on the same kind of
machine in April. She also plans to take a vacation and may
buy a new truck for her husband of 43 years, she said.
Allen took home a check for $26,883 and will get an equal
sum annually for the next 19 years.
